They're two different buildings, at either side of the park.
Park Hospital was the Seamen's Orphanage which opened in 1864.
Queen Victoria stayed at the Judge's Lodgings in 1886 when she visited The International Exhibition of Navigation, Commerce and Manufacturers. The house had been built in the late 18th century as Newsham House.
    My mistake!

Not that smart, yesterday you were denying being a scouser!

The day was spoilt by needing a toilet for the Lady. Not one to be found. It seems to be a city-wide problem:-
Sefton Park = None that I can find
Newsham Park = again, none that I can find.
Otterspool Prom = ? need I go on
    Stanley Park ???
and what about all the other parks ??
We now have to plan our days out on toilet locations.

Leaves me wondering what the millions of visitors will do in 2008 if they visit a park in the city. (Incopads and Percy Payne bags on sale here)

In the days when we had nothing we had fun.
If tomorrow starts without me, remember I was here.

    They're for the public.
I suppose it's a bit like McDonalds or a pub - if you need to go just walk right in as if you've every right to do so!

Legally you're not. To use a facility at a public house, you need to actually buy a drink at the bar before you can use their toilets.

    Default Sefton Park Restoration

Does anyone know if the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain in Sefton Park is going to be restored? Someone in another post mentioned that the Statue of Eros, which is now in the Conservation Centre, will not be returned to the fountain! Is this true?

I remember when the statue was taken down.
I had the impression that a replacement was going to be put back.
Apparently a cast has been made:

Naturally, I'm disgusted that all that has happened is that the Conservation Centre have kept the original as the showpiece for their Eros cafe.

    Was it ever a fountain?
I know it's called one, but I've never known it working, or even seen photos of it in use.
It's a copy of the one in Piccadilly Circus, London.

According to someone from Huyton ringing in the Roger Phillips phone in some weeks back. Their public toilets were demolished and upon investigation to the council as to the whereabouts of the nearest public toilets, he was told to use McDonald's. Now whether they were privvy to that information, no-one knows.

Thanks for the link PhilipG. I can't believe I missed that page! Some interesting info there. I think the Conservation Centre does some great work, so lets hope the replica makes its way to the the park soon...

    RE: Court Hey Park

A VANDAL-plagued conservation centre has won two Merseyside tourism awards.

The National Wildflower Centre in Huyton warned it might have to close after yobs smashed windows in its specialist greenhouse.

But last night the six-year-old nature centre was named Small Tourism Business and Small Visitor Attraction of the year in The Mersey Partnership’s (TMP) annual tourism awards.

The centre in Court Hey Park, Roby Road, is dedicated to creative conservation and putting wildflowers back into Britain. continues....

    Default Dingle wildflower field

Interesting to read about the national wildflower centre at Court Hey. It seems a similar attempt was made in the Dingle, Toxteth. Unfortunately, no one told the groundsman who promptly mowed the field !! Only few wild flowers left around the sign where he couldn't get his mower

Let's hope they knew the right time of year to mow it, when the seed heads would scatter.
