This is the site of the old Crown Street goods station and the main passenger rail terminus before the line was extended into Lime Street. The chimney was a vent to let the steam out of the tunnel. One of our ancestors was killed here in 1887 after being crushed between two railway wagons.

The paved circle in the park is on the exact location of the rail turning circle.

One of the Clarences graving docks with a derelict dock building, and the old tobacco warehouse in the background. Walked across that rickety old dock gate

Sandhills Bridge with the scaffolding being removed after painting, the effect is spoiled by the breeze blocks on the right where part of the old stonework was demolished by a traffic accident.

    Default Sandhills Bridge.

I remember this bridge well from the 30's. It still makes an attractive
pic, Joe. But you think they could have found a dozen sandstone blocks from
somewhere and made a proper job of it.
