    Default River Mersey - Frozen - 1895?

Don't know if this is posted in the correct catagory:-

Received a call from my cousin in America recently.

He would like me to locate photos of the river mersey frozen over in about 1895

He is sure there is one with a horse and cart on it!!!! - perhaps it was a painting?

I can remember seeing photos (not in 1895!!!!) of the frozen mersey - could have been in a local paper - but not with a horse and cart on them!!!

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Doc

There's internet pics of it frozen over in 1963. I doubt 1895 pics exist.

The river never froze over in 1963. Some ice broke off the sides at Wallasey and floated down river. The tidal rise and drop with fast currents makes it very difficult for ice to form.

If ice forms it can only be in ice patches.

Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
    how it once was?
