    Default German submarine U-534

Work is progressing on the old German submarine which lay on the dockside in Birkenhead for a few years after the closure of the warship museum. It was cut into 4 pieces and is now lying outside the Woodside Ferry

I preferred it when it was in one piece and unpainted.

Could I ask do you think this restored U boat would be a popular visitor attraction when completed? The reason I ask is that our local council have spent a lot of money surveying the fleet of U boats that surrendered into Derry port at the end of WWII and that were then scuttled just outside the lough in the Atlantic.
They are thinking of bringing one back up to restore it and play an important part of the history of the city and the war effort.

If it was left whole instead of cutting it up like this has. quite a lot of stuff has been removed from inside to allow peaple to walk inside the various sections.
Any ex submariners know what the round cylinder thing is in the right hand corner of the last picture as there are a few of these lying around.
