    Default Garsron Village Hall

It's ironic that the Village Hall site should be being used for the construction of temporary hospital facilities. Once the new hospital is built, the doctor's medical practice and associated pharmacy in the Village Hall complex will be moving to the new hospital site. Will the hall then be viable?

Taffy, the shops adjacent the Empire,as seen in your picture, had a record and sheet music store among their number. I can remember seeing a very young Shirley Bassey getting out of a big black car to do some publicity shots in there and around the same time Frankie Vaughan came there to do the same. That was the first time I saw fan hysteria, pony tailed girls and women in head scarves and curlers where jumping up and down screaming "Frankieee!!!" I was amazed ,I thought that sort of thing only happened on the newsreels. I wonder what that record store is now?

Why demolish such a beautiful building to make way for a building with half a reel of tinfoil tacked to it???

For a country thats broke, we seem to be doing pretty well at spending!

The same is happening in Birkenhead with the demolition of St Catherine's Hospital.

Thanks for the info Brian. I'll see if I can find out which shop it was. Most on James St are empty these days. Headscarves and curlers are making a come back in Liverpool. Must the the recession.

I am pretty sure the record shop was second or third shop in from the St Mary's Rd end of James St, next to a ladies hairdressers and on the same side as the Empire.

Also one of the old Empire Music Hall and Cinema, now closed
Just heard, English Hertage have rejected an application to list the Garston Hospital as being of architectural significance. This probably means it will now be demolished. A sad day for Garston and Liverpool which can ill afford such good buildings being lost

Considering that there isn't much of old Garston left, it's alarming to think that Garston Hospital will likely be demolished as well. For shame! My uncle, Liverpool comedian Billy Matchett, my grandad's brother, died there on November 15, 1974.

What a depressing site. I don't know if it's because I remember sitting there last January but these pics made me feel sad. It was a lovely building and should have been saved. No doubt some modern build uglyness will be buit within time

Check out Taffy's post above. I only ever went past the hostpital on me way to work and it was a bit of a strange looking place, for a hospital that is
