LIVERPOOL?S Capital of Culture year has had an estimated ?200m worth of positive press across the UK and the world, it was revealed last night.

Kris Donaldson, director of Liverpool Culture Company, said the 1,200 articles written globally about last week?s MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) had pushed the amount of positive press the city had received over the ?200m mark.

Mr Donaldson also revealed that following coverage of the EMAs, 10,000 articles had now appeared in the UK?s print media giving positive coverage to Capital of Culture.

He expected Liverpool to continue to benefit from the effects of the positive press for ?at least a couple of decades?.

The Culture Company is currently working with a number of organisations to add up the direct economic impact of the city?s flagship year.

?There?s a lot of work going on as we are trying to get a sense of what the impact of the year is going to be.

?We think that in the UK alone positive press coverage is going to be worth more than ?100m, and international coverage is also approximately ?100m.?

The figure does not include television or radio coverage of which there has also been plenty.

Indeed the BBC Culture Show, which has already done one special programme on Liverpool this year, is now planning a second.

?We are over the moon with the coverage Liverpool has had. Over the past 12 months, there has been some fantastic coverage and wonderful reactions to what is going on here.

?Liverpool has been on the lips of not only people in the UK but also across Europe.? next ?
