Terrific. What does it say on the medal? I believe the Titanic used CQD and then the new SOS.

Hi, unfortunately the medal passed down another line of the family. I haven't seen it in a long time.

The writing at the bottom reads "The SS Republic", then a number. The medal came with a blue-white and yellow/green ribbon.

THE owners of Liverpool?s Baltic Fleet pub are demanding action be taken to spruce up the adjacent building site whose derelict ?ghost town? appearance, they claim, has cost them thousands of pounds in lost business. Read

Construction on the dock road has been terrible, not just by the Baltic Fleet either. They seem to keep redoing the pavements by where the Red Ship near Mann Island Is.

The builders don't clean up after themselves properly leaving allkinds of debris on the roads like sand.

My son and i got thinking about the Baltic Fleet. Why on earth was trade with the Baltic based on the west coast - about as far from the Baltic as you can get in the UK? Surely it would have been more sense to base the Baltic Fleet on the east coast?

Or is the pub named after the Imperial Russian Navy?

Timber came in. Beer from Burton and ship & maintenance materials went out. In the 1700s and early 1800s transporting across land was slow and expensive, so best to go direct to the ports in bulk with ships.
