Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
how it once was?

Still desperately hope Paul can overcome the problems he has with the costing of his tour de force.

Just read the Toxeth post and the Herculaneum Pottery part aroused my interest. In the ealy 1960`s I sometimes went with our kid to the sand bank
called the Burbo bank in the middle of the mersey to clean the keel of his fishing boat and while waiting for the tide to come in to refloat us we would find various pieces of broken pottery and dishes in the sand. In my ignorance I thought the were thrown overboard by passing ships but now I think they may have come from the pottery. We always collected coal from the same place for the home fire.

well said, davec. When I first discovered toxteth.net I think I read every page, but hadn't looked at it for ages until I referred somebody to it the other day, and discovered it was gone.
Is there anything we can do as a community to get this wonderful resource back online? If it's just a question of cash to pay for hosting, I'm willing to chip in. Anyone else?
If it's a question of the time the owner was spending working on the site, again I'd like to help.
I would dearly like to see toxteth.net back online, the wayback machine is great but it isn't the same as a living, breathing website. Come on gang, can we do it?
I had discovered that site too and loved it. I went in to get the photo of my school to put up here (I find I had nicked it from the site anyway!!! and poof, it has gone.
It wold be lovely to have it back. There was a photo on there of the Welsh houses where my grandmother lived.

Hi all, and greetings from 'down-under'.
this is my first post so forgive me for any ''slip-ups'' etc. does anyone have any pictures of Hadassah Grove [number 9] - MY GREAT GREAT grandfather lived there with his family back in the 1850's - name was Richard Somers Watts. H e was a master mariner and sailed for the Allen Line from Liverpool. I have a strong connection to Liverpool owing to him and also to the fab four. BY the by, I am english born [ISLE OF WIGHT] but now residing in OZ.

I am lookig into Richard's life and trying to find somewhere that there may exist a photo of him..big ask, i know but you never know unless you ask, i suppose.
