Sinbad joins Corry.. result, another scouser on the street!

Starke will play single dad Jerry Morton in the ITV1 soap, moving into Charlie Stubbs' old house and opening a takeaway in a former bakery. Other family members include 17-year old twins Mel and Darryl, played by Emma Edmondson and Jonathan Dixon. Starke will make his first appearance on screen on 18 March.

His character is described as a "hard working family man who dotes on his family and has now qualms on dodging the taxman". Hmm, will Michael be using his vast repertoire of accents and playing a Mancunian or is this another Corrie example of a dodgy Scouse character.

No, just falling for what his casting agent says.

Tell ya what? He's gonna have to sort the accent out on Corry. He starts a sentence in Manchunian or whatever, then finishes in scouse!

It makes me chuckle. Let him be scouse!

Coronation Street star Michael Starke did not know that he was being axed from the soap until he read about it in a newspaper.

News that Starke's character Jerry Morton is being written out of the ITV1 show was leaked to the press last month. His on-screen family Mel (Emma Edmonson), Darryl (Johnny Dixon), Kayleigh (Jessica Bardon) and Finlay (Ramone Quinn) are also on the way out.

"There was a leak, so I was at home when I got the news. It was very unfortunate, but that's the way it goes in this business," Michael told the Liverpool Daily Post. "You shouldn't find out about your job like that, but there are a lot of sacrifices that you make in this game."

The Morton family have been involved in few storylines since they joined the cast last March, however Jerry finally comes to the forefront this week when he suffers a heart attack in the Rovers.

"We have been adrift, because we haven't had many storylines and those that we have had have been dropped because something's changed," Michael explained. "Now we have a storyline, it's looking really good and it's a chance to show that we've got something - and give the family a chance to really blend and show what they're all about."

It doesn't surprise me that the family are being jibbed. They made no impact whatsoever and it was a stupid move to employ Sinbad as a Manc, he often would slip into and out of accent throughout a scene.

They should have brought Michael Starke in on his own as a Scouser, playing a similar character as he did in Brookie.

Craig Charles is still in it.

They tried to explain his strange accent in one episode by saying the character was from St Helens!
