    Spot on,sergeants and higher ranks were allowed to carry sticks tucked under their arms-or for pointing at traffic etc. They had rank stripes on the uniform much like the army uniforms of the day

    Looking at some of my old Xmas pics and realised how much better Church St looked in 2008 without the sheds and stalls, This year there is not much colour in the lights and I don`t remember any nativity scenes in the lights.It mustn`t be P C

    Great those Joe. My wife's nan lived in Netherby street, another of those, in fact her dad was born there. They're pretty steep, you need a good handbrake and you can hear the trains rumbling underneath the house. Great view over the river from the bottom though.
