    Mrs. Braddock.
Had the honour of meeting her she was always working to improve conditions for the working class people.
You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.

Yes, what a character - I can remember going round there to rope her in to our residents' association. I could have listened to her for hours.

    I'll second that.

although she's before my time I've only ever heard good things about Our Bessie. so I'd probably go for her too.

    Default Josephine Butler

It has to be Josephine Butler who lived on Park Rd, Dingle in the mid to late 19th C. She did more for women in the 19th C than perhaps any other woman.

I'm reading a chapter of a book at the moment and a certain John Braddock, Bessie's husband? seems to have gone to prison for his beliefs of certain people in Liverpool, although he was released after the police "thought he was someone else!!!"

    So Jack has my vote.
