Prescot Rd ( where the Icleand is now )
To the far left is the Regent Cinema, then became Casino Cars ( the second pic ), later Kwik Save, now stands empty.

do know where this is .....
12 months before the Curzon Cinema was built ( ex Home Bargains ) this was the site, in 1935.
In the second pic, the Curzon is the building on the left hand side, Mart.
Great pics Martin..........before that cinema was built you could see our road!
Great pic's Martin, but where was Highfield house?
Highfield House stood where Highfield School is now.
The drive up to it from the lodges on Prescot Rd must have been impressive at the time.
I do have a cople of pics of it on the website I will release soon !
Mart
Anyone remember which cinema was on the next corner to Baden Road?
Depending on how long ago you're talking about, there were two. The Curzon was over the road to your left as you came on to Prescot Road from Baden Road and The Regent was on the same side to your right.

Originally there were 3 and I'm sure Sirob or Philip G will correct me if I'm wrong. :PDT_Xtremez_42:
The Curzon was on Dovercliffe / Prescot Rd.
The ORIGINAL Regent was where the Kwik Save is / was, it was that building ( it became Casino Cars after teh new Regent was built )
and the New Regent ( demolished ) is where Baden House is now.
Mart
I just had a browse around for info on the New Regent as I didn't know it existed and it was indeed on the site of Baden House from 1938 - 1967.
I remember it in the 50's. I can't honestly remember if it was still there in the 70's. My Grandparents lived at 10 Baden Road and I just walked round the corner. I loved the shape of it so it was probably Art Deco!
Thanks for photos. The Curzon looks right but I don't remember those shops, only residences. The side of it was on the main shopping road.
*****I asked my mother recently as I was only a kid and can't really remember and she said the cinema was in Baden Road itself!!!
It sounds more like the New Regent which as Martin described was on Baden Road/Prescot Road.

Bit of a cheek sliping this in..any one living in old swan know of a cake shop run by Billy Cook.he ran it with his two sons I think?
hmtmaj.Sorry all I know is it was a cake shop in old swan indipendant.i'm not in liverpool so dont know how to find out.thanks.
Cubbons was on Broadgreen Rd, Sayers AND Reecses were on Prescot Rd, the other I speak of was Prescot Rd, opposite St Annes School, so maybe this is the one.
I only frequented it a few times if I was down that way, don't know the owners name etc, sorry, Mart
What was the one on Green lane.
Atkinsons? has it always been named that?
Edwardo
Any idea when he ran it?
The cake shop is still on Green Lane halfway up,dunno the name but its frontage is still as it was 40 years ago? its purple in colour.
This is Atkinsons on Green Lane, to the left side of the building, is the old Homestead Bakery sign
Spike.within the last 10 years or so.I dont live in the pool now so out of touch.he was a cook so his stuff would have been done on the premoses. Thanks
10 years. I've lived here longer than that? If Mart dont know it I dont know where it was sorry.
You sure it was Old Swan?
I suspect it'll be Tom Williams that's on Broad Green Road opposite Craven's/Aldi as that's a cake shop, albeit a fancy one.
Could well be Mark.
There used to be a cake shop next to Woolies (Home and Bargain) in the Swan. It's a greengrocers now. This was in the 70s, when I was but a kid. It was quite old fashioned if my memory serves me right, i.e. not like Sayers! I'm sure Martin will remember this shop.
