Alder Hey children's hospital multi-million pound go-ahead

THE multi-million pound rebuilding of Alder Hey Hospital has moved a step closer, despite objections from local businesses.

The city council?s decision-making executive board approved the transfer of Alder Hey hospital to nearby Springfield Park.

The planned new ?370m children?s hospital will need part of the park and the car park attached to it.

Building is expected to start in 2011.

But a local vet?s practice is concerned about the loss of car parking spaces.

They land they use is being turned over to the developers.

The Alder Veterinary Hospital has formally objected to the plans.

It said although it supports the hospital scheme, it says council claims there is ?adequate off-street parking? are untrue.

The loss of parking spaces at Springfield Park would mean ?increased parking problems? and ?danger for all highway users?. The concerns were echoed by council leader Cllr Warren Bradley, who told the executive board he was concerned that the decision to transfer the park land to Alder Hey would mean problems for residents.

The veterinary hospital stated: ?We wish to make it clear that we are not objecting to the scheme per se.

?However, we are very concerned about the loss of the public car park which is adjacent to our building.

?We realise that this is a public car park and as such our clients have no ?right? to use it.

?However, the situation needs to be faced that the loss of the car park without the implementation of remedial measures will lead to increased parking problems in the area.? more
