It's not one of mine, but I want to share it.
IMHO I consider it one of the best photos of Liverpool of all time.

Great picture Philip:handclap:
I love it. never seen it like that before.
Nope, me niether, a fab photo. Looks so clean and shiny
I remember vaguely when the North Western Hotel in Lime st was a cafe/bar and my dad would call into John Menzies in the station to get his month encyclopedia suppliment, I ssume it would be around 1973 ish then he would take me into the cafe and he'd have a pint and get me a carton of orange and I remember looking at the blue neon Embassy cigarette sign that would go out then illuminate in sections from one side to the other until fully lit then go back out again and continually repeat but I can't picture where the sign would have been because the new St. John's would have been built by then, I wonder if it was somewhere opposite by Concourse house but then would I have seen it from the station windows - probably not - Help!
Couldn't agree more Phil.I know what I'd rather look at.
Taken 3 weeks ago.

Thanks Phil because I was thinking of the shop frontage by the punch and judy when I typed 'by concourse house' but it was higher up so it fits with The Crown that it could have been that and I might be thinking I watched it from the window but I might've just seen it en route to the station from Blacklers or Lewis's - two places my dad was never out of at the weekend (with me in tow) - bargain basement/household gadgets that you bought and only used once or never used at all.
Ooh that'd be good Gerard. A video of it going on and off would be better though, any chance?
He's been taking photos for over 50 years.
This is a recent one of his.

That is some photo
nice to see the ABC Forum.
Great Pic Phil, it is the first time I have seen it in colour. Another example of where the town planners of the 60's got it wrong.
I had trouble recognising where that was. How did they get away with knocking that down and replacing it with drab concrete? :PDT_Xtremez_42:
Boss photo for 1961.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
St John's Is a crappy looking shopping centre though.
That pic looks like the late Brian Saville's pic.
Here's another of Brian Saville's images. Also shot in 1961:shock:

That first picture is my wallpaper in work, at home, even on my mobile!! There is so much atmosphere to it, you can imagine being there at the time. I wish I had been alive back in the Sixties to see stuff like this, definately the decade i'd have loved to have been about in.
This truly is one of the best photos I have EVER seen, of anything! When was all this destroyed for that ugly-arse shopping centre?
Are there ANY MORE pictures like this out there?? :celb (6):
The 60's era was great :)
Liverpool was buzzing then. I can distinctly remember the feeling of excitement and anticipation. Mind you, I was growing up then, so I suppose life in general would be exciting ! :) but there was a unique feeling to that decade. Something new happening all the time; music, art, fashion, a new way to shop ie; clothing boutiques first came to L'pool, fashion really took off. Clubs were great places in those days and Liverpool was the place to be. :)
I grew up in the 70`s, Flares, 3 star jumper, Birmingham bags, bright coloured shirts. long hair center parted.
why did my dad take so many photos of us:PDT_Xtremez_42:
Hi lads.
Those pictures were actually taken by my ald fella. I'm coming back home tonight for his 70th. Nice to see all your nice comments.
This is my first post. I'm currently exiled in South Wales....long story!
