Anyone remember Hartleys Jam Factory?
I remeber it well, having spent a good few childhood days pinching jars of freshly made stawberry jam!....The building was camouflaged and there was a fantastic clock-tower which got knocked down. The smell from the place on hot summer days was fantastic. If the wind was right you could smell the jam up on Marsh Lane in Bootle!
If anyone has any photo's of the clock-tower I'd be gratefull for a copy...Only for private nostalgic use that is!..I've only been able to find one black and white image which isn't too clear so far!
Jam Factory & Brookfield House
Thanks for the photos. Does anyone know the dates of when they were taken?
My great great grandparents used to live in Brookfield House literally just over the road from the factory. On the 1911 census it lists their two daughter as working as Confectioner's Apprentices - must have been in the Hartley's factory. They moved to America in 1920 and the house was demolished before 1927.
Does anyone have any information on or photos of Brookfield house?
