Is that the glass trapizoidal building in the pictures you saw?
If so, it's many stories high and is a bit more than a bandstand. I think it's competing for an architecture award against the museum building....:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

I am all for that, Ged. I only wish that Peel had bought the Sailors Home.
Trapizoidal? It flies thru the air
with the greatest of ease,
that ***** looking structure,
when caught in a breeze.
Well an e-petition that's been raised in retaliation to the one man band preservation trust who seems to have his lone voice heard more than is merited.
I've posted this on a number of district facebook groups and it has received a fantastic response. :PDT11
buggedboy who posted the e-petition to here makes these indisputable points elsewhere.
LW has 105 buildings. 60 of them are shorter than the town hall, which by any standard, is pretty small to say the least. Only 11 buildings are taller than the Liver Building. The nearest tall is 500m away, further than West Tower, which itself has had no negative impact on heritage. Shanghai tower is almost 600m away from the Liver Building, similar to the distance between the two cathedrals. They couldn't be more different but they don't clash. How's that for balanced?
I would also add that if English Heritage, the preservation trust (one man band) and UNESCO existed in the early 1900s, plans for filling a dock in to create a skyscraper we now know and love to be the Royal Liver building wouldn't have happened.

So true! Of course, they all have a role to play, but not to the detriment of the people who actually live here.....we should make the final decision, not outsiders!
Believe it or not, the Liver when built was also the tallest skyscraper this side of the Atlantic, so far seeing we were.
Liverpool council have passed the 50 million pound plans for development of the tobacco warehouse
Great news. Hopefully the first stage of wider development down there.
LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE POPULATION MARK HITS 28,000
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liver...name_page.html
It is great that the city centre is vibrant again which helps sustain newsagents, grocers, pubs, clubs and restaurants to name but some. For too long it was a ghost town of an evening when the last workers and shoppers had caught their respected buses home.
The increase belies what the scaremongerers tell us about the slow uptake on city centre apartments.
With the increased student population, this should continue. Good news.
Joe Anderson is making it quite clear, he is looking forward not back in terms of any obstacles put forward by Unesco
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/...2534-30044826/
Good on Joe. If Unesco want to put 5.5b into Liverpool's Central Docks instead, then we'll go with their plans
Nice one Joe
If World Heritage Status came with a 5.5 Billion prize it would be worth defending.
I dont think I've met a single person from outside the city who has said they came here on the basis they'd heard it was a world heritage site.
Am I right in thinking though, if the world heritage status is stripped, the scheme will then be called in by the government for a public enquiry?
The Government ministers involved have already mooted they would give this scheme the go ahead, I believe it's not compulsory anyway that it would be called in. In this economic climate and especially now since the 30 year freedom if information release about the 'managed decline', I doubt any minister would put the kibosh on 5.5b of private investment into Liverpool.
Enlgish Heritage has no powers whatsoever to call a public inquiry. It can only refer the matter to the Secretary of State. Bear in mind that is Eric Pickles, who does what he is told by David Cameron. It was cameron who granted Liverpool Waters enterprise zone status, basically giving it the nod. He won't want to hold it up and should wave it through.
There is a good thread here of how Wayne C (He of the appropriate initials) has been rumbled as a one man band and a great pic of what we must preserve at all costs. See what you think lol.

A very silly thread full of tall concrete admiring pots. Wayne has a point. A big point. He is not against modern architecture, just preserving what we have. Modern developments in Liverpool over 75 years have been dire.
Peel = Harry Hyams (of Centre Point fame, who wanted to fill in the Albert Dock). We will end up with what we have been dished up at the South Docks....

The above was the wonderful Herculeneum Dock. Look what we got.
Then look at the Echo Arena, which looks like an IKEA shed. They are planning another shed at Queens Dock. Expect more of the same from Harry Hyams, oh sorry, Peel.
Liverpool has something worth preserving and uncovering.
