The City Corporation got hold of the airport in 1961 from air Ministry. Immediately the city played catch up and planned a new runway which was built complete around 1965.
By then it was obvious that large jet liners were the futures as 707s were about. As so much work was to be done, the airport probably would have been placed around Crosby/Formby way with planes coming in right over Liverpool Bay, so no nuisance.
Does anyone know if this was ever considered?
