Went down to Seacombe Ferry to watch it coming in. Mighty impressive. Thought for a moment it was gonna hit the ferry terminal. Looked like a major job turning her around.
Looks like she's got two additional funnels modelled upon the spires of the Liver Building.
Great photo.
Queen Mary has three funnels, the big red one and two aft painted white.
When she blows her whistle, it is on the Red Funnel, it is the original whistle off the old Queen Mary, now retired as a hotel ship in Long Beach California.
My initial reaction to this ship was - "I don't care". The Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were Liverpool owned and never once sailed up the Mersey. Cunard moved out of the city.
Should I take heed of the parable, the Prodigal Son? Well he came home, this is only visiting.
Hey Brian - hope you're well. Kevin
Not so bad Kevin, I had the stitches out on Friday and go to Physio twice a week. Not allowed to drive until I see the surgeon in three weeks. Still got my drinking arm that gets plenty of physio.
Cheers

I`ll get my pics on "Yo Liverpool" first
Not an easy ship to get excited about - a large barge with accommodation on top. Cruise ships used to have style but now it's about maximising the passengers you can get afloat then making compromises to try and get your block of flats look like a ship. They've only partially succeeded.
Thanks to all of you who posted those pictures, especially you Joe;they were the next best thing to being there,
BrianD
i for one had a great time.
hope everyone else that went to see her had a good one too.
a few niggly things spoilt it, people pushing by and getting in the way of a good shot, the ferry hitting a wave and ruining that perfect pic. and my camera bag breaking in two places, time to get a new one.
if anyone goes to the fireworks, enjoy and wrap up warm

Great pic's everyone!( Think Queen Mary II,would look better with Liverpool under it's name, though!)
Brilliant pics all.:PDT11 It amazes me when I think my mum went the states on that beauty.
Very fine pics all.:handclap:
Great pictures guys. Reckon we should be grateful people wanna come to the city. All these visits are good for us.
Some great pics there! Couldn't get over the other side because of work, so took sme pics from over the water. Slight editing (:unibrow:) because it was so dull out there today!
Fantastic pictures and wonderful to see the ship at the Pier Head. I didn't realise Cunard passenger operations were shifted to Southampton in the 1930s. I wonder why that was?
I've travelled to New York twice on the ship on a round trip, which includes five nights in NY in the Marriot in Times Square. Pretty good value for a 19 day holiday. Loads of activities on the crossing, films, shows, plays, all sorts of activities. Fantastic food and service. It's quite an experience. I was surprised to see tugs around it yesterday. It doesn't use any in New York.
Only the two largest liners, the Queens. Government money paid to finish the rusting Queen Mary on the slips at Glasgow. The condition was that to get the money and the lucrative mail contract to North America, the government instead the two largest ship use only southern ports. The rape of Liverpool continued
The tugs were to turn her around, she sailed up the river by herself. Her bow thrusters alone can manoeuvre the ship onto the landing stage.Quote:

I did the Maiden Voyage on her, a 14 day trip to West Indies and Fort Lauderdale Fla. in January 2004 and in January 2006 I did the round South America trip six weeks, Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles via Cape Horn six weeks.
She is a fantastic ship, the best I have ever been on for Everything.
She is the only ship with a planetarium. Your seat rolls back and then you seem to travel through space and the stars and planets. An incredible experience. Fantastic catering and entertainment.
Forget the kids inheritence go on a trip on QM2.
