Anyone got any info on Broadgreen Hospital history. I know it was the Fairfield infirmary beforehand but would like some pictures and info on the hospital and staff from 1970 onwards. I worked there as a theatre technicianbetween 1973 and 1981 before moving to the new Royal Hospital.
Anyone please help.

Highfield Infirmary, Old Swan, an epileptic home, was opened in 1903 by the
Liverpool Select Vestry. In 1922 Highfield Infirmary was transferred to the
Liverpool Corporation and it became the Highfield Sanatorium for tuberculosis
sufferers. In 1929 it changed its name to Broadgreen Sanatorium and later
became Broadgreen Hospital. Liverpool Record Office holds the records of
Broadgreen Hospital, 1931-1989 (ref: 614 BRO), but no earlier records for
Highfield Infirmary survive.

My son was born at Broadgreen Hospital. I will always hold a fondness for the place. Thanks for posting the info.
I used to work there between 2003-2007 and I'm amazed how small it looks compared to how it is now. Also interesting to see that the estate I used to live on (open space above hospital on map) didn't exist back then either! Think they may have been built in the 1920's / 30's?
I think even up until just three years ago I was doing tests on patients' heart function on those wards in the map picture. I think it was wards 28-32 that I used to frequent.

Hiya - my mum worked at Broadgreen from 1964 - 1985, her name is Margaret Elizabeth Blackburn, she was a student nurse, then staff nurse, sister and eventually did her midwifery training, ending up in running family planning.... if you remember her please contact me. It was Highfield Infirmary built in 1903 as an epileptic home, then TB infirmary, after the may blitz of 1941, it became a district hospital.Quote:
