I had a nose around their domain by editing their website address and came across:
http://www.smithofderby.com/v2/proje...outJBJoyce.htm
When I saw the name Joyce Whitworth, it rang a bell but I couldn't for the life of me work out why until I remembered that the clock face in Lime Street has exactly the same name!
I see Birkenhead had a "Town Station"; anyone know where this was????
It was at the corner of Grange Road & Tunnel Road on the 'L & N W & G W Joint Railway Birkenhead Line', which terminated at Woodside.
This is the 1909 OS map.

Interestingly, the map shows a number of anomalies - such as showing Egerton Dock WEST of Tower Road (and cut off from the Great Float).
The publication date of this map appears to pre-date Vittoria Dock (1909) but post-date the renaming of Seacombe station to Seacombe & Egremont (1901).
One thing that blew me away was to realize that the dock railway used to connect the Wirral railway at Seacombe to Alfred Dock! I remember Seacombe station in the 1950s, I don't remember any lines leading from it towards the docks.
Hopefully one day there will be trams connecting Wallasey with the docks and Birkenhead again.
Oh, and on an unrelated topic, does anyone know where exactly the Merchant Navy office at Morpeth Dock was located? The place where merchant sailors got their "Continuous Discharge" books.
Hi all.
I am currently working on a rather large project, where I am map plotting every open & closed passenger station in the UK (hell, it's taking a while!!)
So far, I've completed the following:
Every open passenger station in England, Wales & Scotland.
Every light rail / tube station in England, Scotland & Wales.
Every open standard gauge heritage station in the same.
Just the closed ones to do now... arrrrgh! (Well, keeps me out of trouble!!)
As I'm a local lad, I originally plotted every open & closed station in the North West & there are so, so many. If the majority were still in existence today, there would be virtually nowhere that wasn't within easy reach of a railway station. Unfortunately now, towns such as Skelmersdale, Leigh, Ashton in Makerfield, Golborne, etc are no longer linked to the network. As for the western side of the Wirral, well... you either need your own transport or very long legs!
In regard to pictures being available of Tithebarn Street, to my knowledge there's only a pencilled drawing available of the buildings facade from ground level, looking upwards. I have never seen anything else. Also, I have only ever seen pictures of Great Howard Street, after it had become a goods station. I don't think any were ever taken when it was open for passenger use. Remember; back then, cameras probably hadn't even been invented!
One last point, I've said this before; there has NEVER ever been a station at 'Hodson St'. Granted it may have been a stop off point for rail workers, but it was never used by the public. As much as your website is interesting Oritelad, it needs to also be correct! Clearly you 'believe' there was, but that wouldn't stand the test of time in any court of law!! You need to be able to cite your references... :)
Hi Scouse, though no expert,I think you've got to be right about Great Howard st.as it was about the 1830's/40's when it was briefly a passenger station!Keep up the good work!
Wow, what a huge task! Well done you! As an expert, would you happen to know where in 1885 a railway ran alongside the StHelens Chemical Works? Its mentioned on my 2x great grandfather's death cert as the site of his (eventually) fatal accident? Love Flower
see if u can find it on here
http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/sites.shtml
There's 4 disused railway stations listed there, but I wouldn't have a clue if any went past a chemical works
Ah well, never mind! Flower

The Liverpool A-Z maps any of the old railway lines if you need to follow where they start and finish. That's how we found out which tunnel we were in back in 1979 and which streets we had walked under.
That's a great pic'there,George! Though it doesn't show much of the station,it does show the little "cabins, the one on the left becoming "Tattoo Jack's",after he moved from Gregson's Well, and the coal merchant's which became a cafe, until they were both demolished, for some reason, about 10/11 years ago!
WestDerby Village station has gone too, there's a pic of that in the second link.
I've seen that one when I first moved up to Cantril Fart...erm Farm.
