the site of Cobbs Quarry on St Domingo Rd is being made into coach parking for Liverpool FC
Is the site still a hole in the ground or has the quarry been filled in?
until about 10 years ago it was a land fill site
Thanks Mandy, its amazing what was out there many years ago.....

The same building was used as the prototype for Eldon Street Tenements.

there was a Quarry in Mark St too ...you can still see the wall where the stone was excavated
There were quite a few quarries around Anfield... I think I have a copy of a 1893 map of the area. It does indeed show some quarries that I have highlighted in red.

The quarry on the top left of the image I take to be Mr. Dutch's Oakfield Road Quarry which the following 1877 Liverpool Mercury piece mentions;

Did he fall or was he pushed? Another unsolved Merseyside murder!
:handclap: Excellent cheers :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Some pics of Richmond Park playground.
Took these pics of the floods 1987.
The back of the old Breck rd library is in the distance. (the swings are out of shot behind me)
The street high up is Sedly st. Richmond Park to the right.
The area looks like it could well have been a quarry.
Thanks for map Fortinian. :PDT11
wow LL, cheers :handclap:
Being brought up in Wolverton st, I spent all my childhood days in the swing park :)
It used to be chokka with kids. our mothers couldn't get us to home in for tea! I have a lot of memories of that area.
There was a few sets of swings, 2 maypoles, and later a sand pit was added. There was a hut where you get get pogo sticks and stilts, also a cocky watchman overseeing things.
In those days there was no major fencing or security there as it wasn't needed - the huts were just locked up for the night. No one touched them.
Imagine that these days !
sorry - going off topic here. :PDT_Xtremez_42:
Forgot to add that there are now new houses built there.
The other part, which is out of shot on the attached photos - (above post) - still remains today as a modern play area.
View looking over to Richmond Park. The gap between the newer and older houses is an alleyway (now gated) leading to Wolverton st.
