Flanagans Apple used to be the Amanda Marda cafe back in the early 80s we used to have our lunch there when we worked at Binns, It was vegetarian . Flan- the landlady and licencee was the wife of Joe who took over from Jimmy Moore at O'Connors and then opened Trader Jacks where the Masonic used to be facing top of Bold St. They were excellent hosts and ran great pubs.Brian and Austin were a couple of their managers who ran O'Connors which was one of the Art College pubs along with the Phil, the Cracke, Streets,The Blackburn. The bar facing O'Connors used to be a grocery shop and Bar One used to be the Sailors Home. The instant Irish pub thing is something that has recently happened no history to it at all. The American Bar was never an Irish until someone decided to paint the slogan on the front . The authentic Irish pubs were either on the dock road or Scotland Road

Been speaking to Magical Mystery Store/Cavern Mecca legend Jim Hughes and it's sad that due to his own bad health, he cannot make the tribute evening himself. All the best to Jim for his and Liz's hard work in making those projects happen when all the council were doing were demolishing the cavern, thinking of getting rid of the Woolton stage where J&P met and not putting anything towards a Beatles statue. Glad to say they finally cottoned on about a decade too late but not without pressure and basically being embarrassed into it by the likes of Liz, Jim and John Chambers.

Very True Ged
Beatle fans owe Jim and Liz a lot. As you say the council showed no interest.
