The bell that is in St Nick's Churchyard has a slot in the top. This was for the bell restoration fund from years ago. However the bell is welded to what it sits on so there's no way you'd be able to stick it in ya pocket :)
the photos of st nicks were cracker, thanks a lot. I,ve just had a reference back from a relative to tell me that one of my relatives (loosely said) was one of the first bell ringers to have rung the present bells. His name was William Thistlewood and hailled from Birmingham. Apparently he and a gang of others used to travel the country ringing bells wherever they could.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
'kinhell!
Gerard mate:eek:
I leave all the holy joe stuff to my missus, but I do love my church photies. Great pics.
The Area around the Otterspool Bull wasn't like that when I went last month. They were putting new railings down though and taking off the old ones with the red roses on them.
Does anyone know when the statues in Sefton Park are due to be restored? Funding has been secured, but the restoration doesn't seem to have started yet.
I know ScouserDave has received this too. Pat has given me permission to post it up, hopefully there could be a monument erected to Melly somewhere within the new buildings going up or in the public green space.

The Friends of Liverpool Monuments have been working with Liverpool City Council, the Culture Company & United Utilities on a project to re-introduce drinking fountain back onto the streets of Liverpool. The first to be connected to the the water supply is in Woolton Road, see:
http://www.liverpoolmonuments.co.uk/...lrddkfn01.html
Th 'Friends' have spent 14 hours cleaning this fountain. Liverpool City Council have reconnected the drainage, United Utilities have installed a control box and will be connected the water supply soon. On the Thursday 22nd March (09:30-11:00) the fountain is due to be unveiled.
We at the 'Friends' would like to see new drinking fountains introduced in the public areas of new buildings in Liverpool city centre.
Cheers,
Pat

Hello,
Your site is very good and I just wondered if anyone has an image of
the Monument to William Paulsom in Derby Park, Bootle please? I need to
talk about it for a lecture on 14th March and would be really grateful
to see an image.
Many thanks,
Emma
Wife tells me of a fountain being turned on today

and are they turning on more of them (hopes are high).
Phredd
Phredd, it was cleaned up and restored by three of my mates, Pat Neil of Liverpool Monuments, Robin Riley the sculptor and Ben Murphy (son of sculptor Tom Murphy) who is a monumental restorer. I've got some hires before and after images sent to me by Pat Neil. I'll post them after I've made the tea.
Thanks for the info Dave.
Have you made the tea yet ?? :)
Phredd
LOL! Sorry Phredd, I forgot.
Here's a before and after shot. Pics by Pat Neil, www.liverpoolmonuments.co.uk
Thanks, Dave and Phredd. They've done a fine restoration job, haven't they? I assume that the restored drinking fountain is not functional. Is that right? Also is what remains of the old tap to the right of the fountain? Do you think the lion's head was completely replaced or just somehow mended and coated with preservative?
One other comment. They made an interesting decision to fill in the date. I assume it might have been done because they thought that, if the incised lettering remained as it was, a vandal might chip away at it but that they might be less inclined to do so if the numbers were filled in.
Chris
Chris, I think it's functional again. Would have been nice to attend the launch.
BTW, is this Chapel street with St Nicks water fountain on the right?

Think I'll send Bill Shaw an invitation asking him why this mess was left like that over last weekend
And why Nobody in our Area...Thats right...Nobody was sent any Warning of these Water Works taking place.
Hope you see this Bill and pull yer finger out Lad.

Water state that's in Gerard, you're quite right.
They do the same when they lift fancy block paving up in the city centre, replace it with lumps of tarmac.
That is St. Nicks Dave. Haven't seen that before with the fancy structure around it.

Max, I think you've found another Liver Bird. :handclap:
excellent photo Max. :handclap:
it's much easier with Sony and Photoshop.
Just sharpening and the odd noise reductions.
Sometimes despeckle too.
According to Pat Neil, the next water fountain United Utilities are going to put back on again is the one outside St Mick's on West Derby Rd next to Ogdens. Pat's gone over there today to tidy it up. That was the church (and SFX) that all the RC side of my family used to attend.
THREE teenagers found themselves in a spot of bother after trying to scale one of Liverpool’s most recognisable landmarks.
The youngsters clambered onto the famous Superlambanana - currently stationed outside the JMU building on Tithebarn Street - but once up there could not get back down.
Their friends were unable to help, and the trio were eventually forced to call the Fire Service. continues....
******s, it's not that high. We used to drop from the first landing of the tennies.
Bah, or should it be Baaa?
