THE CHANGING FACE OF SPEKE
On my way to work this morning i suddenly realised Speke is no longer the place i knew as a child. All the old factorys have gone theres a hotel on the old sports field the parade shops have gone and they have just completed anew shopping development on the old "ralla".If any body has photos would love to see them i.e. Whitley Lang and Neil factory (that used to look posh) Evans Medical, Cousins Bakery Metal Box ,Lockeeds, Dunlops,Standards and all the old factorys off Woodend Ave. Would be great to here from old friends from Evans Medical (1974 to 1978) and memorys of Speke in the "good old days"
All Hallows/Pope John Paul II
Mr Campbell History - Left around 1990.
Mr Naylor Woodwork - Same as above.
Mr Duffy Metalwork - Looked like a mad Father Xmas. Left around 89-90. Was mates with Mr Naylor - both as mad as a box of frogs.
Mr Marr Science - Left around 91. If I remember rightly the poor sod never got over the death of his missus and never returned.
My mam and dad always say that the worst thing they did to that school was letting it become a mixed school (naming it Pope John Paul II in the process) rather than boys and girls. It had become a shambles by the time I left in 92 and only lasted for a few years after.
