It is a fantastic photograph, although I think corky100 means Birkenhead Priory. :PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Phredd, what's the story behind this photograph? Was it a special day excursion up the Manchester Ship Canal? Also when did the voyage take place?

Chris it is a usual thing now for excursion from Liverpool to Salford and then a bus back to liverpool.
They do a return trip with those from Manchester to Liverpool and then bus back to Salford.
Last time a checked the site I think it cost about ?32 for the trip.
The picture was taken last year from Wigg Island Community Park>; (the old ICI testing ground for Mustard Gas and other evil doings during and shortly after WW2).

Why can't they get the ferry back? It has to get back to Merseyside anyway.

Mersey Ferries
That's more like the Ferries I used to know - and one going to New Brighton
too!
Thanks for showing it, GD.

And 50 years later and I`m still taking her on cruises and it`s cheaper now,I think it was 9d return then but now it`s free

Wife and I spent a few hours down on the Prom at New Brighton.
Nice sunny & pleasant day.
River seemed rather busy with ships.

As a kid I was always amazed by the deck hands jumping on the gangway to help it come down onto the deck.
