found out that Great, great grandad was a fisherman is there any information about the fishing industry in liverpool and how i could find out if he worked on certain boats etc..... any help greatly appreciated am now to all this and have got as far as i think i can

Liverpool fishing industry was probably ended with the sale to Milford of the last 3 trawlers Celtia, Goosander,and Gallinule in 1939.
Then on it was only small boat owners who made a living catching and selling the fish.
The last full time fisherman,from the Mersey was my brother John seen here mending his nets on the "Cocklehole" slipway in the 1960`s, with his boat the Comrade just below him

Thanks greg's dad for the info etc...... do you have any info or direction i can follow to find out if he was assigned to what boat etc...... it was around 1880-91

My late father worked for Tate & Lyle/ Huskisson Transit. I remember well,he often returned from work in the evening (mid 60's)with fresh-fish.I've no idea where it came from;perhaps straight off the boat ?
Most probably off our kid, he always had dockers on the quayside waiting for him to come in with his fish at the Coburg Dock.
I remember your brother from the mid sixties, I was a Fireman at Coburg Dock Fire station. He often came in for a wash and brush up after a fishing trip and gave us shrimps.

I got it!!! :) I worked at James Troop and went to that canteen and also the one at Brunswick Dock too. They were about the same distance apart from Troops. Wooden tables and benches and the best bacon sandwiches known to mankind.Quote:

We did a lot of Shipping for James Troop on Sefton Street in the early 1980s, Bob Cain was the man who gave us the work, nice chap he was but I suspect your time there will have been before that John.

Yes, it was engines and spare parts both import and export. We also did lots for Marine manpower services on the industrial estate that was on Ormskirk Road, Aintree before the retail park, a couple of Scottish blokes ran it.Quote:

BBC TV did a series of programmes called "Through one pair of eyes" featuring our kid and the late Arthur Dooley,the famous sculptor,who our kid was friendly with,on board his fishing nobby. Here he is at 80 still fishing with me outside the Cocklehole only using rods now instead of trawling
Still trying to find out info some one gave me some web sites which were good but as i don't know if he was on a ship i am lost again any ideas?
