It used to be the Lord Street Arcade.
Something like the Wayfarer's Arcade in Southport.
Designed by W Aubrey Thomas (Royal Liver, Tower Buildings, etc).
It opened in 1901.
In the 1980s the upper part was the Strawberry Dance Studios and they let me take some photos.
I'll try and dig them out.
Even I didn't recognise that building - sterling work Philip.
It's sad to say that most of us walk around town with our heads down, myself included!
I agree, the ones I've seen around town look tatty already. The ones on Duke St at least are semi-transparent, so they look faded and worn-out straight away.
There's loads of filthy tatty ones by Queens drive and Walton Hall ave too.
Get rid of em now and the Lambanana things before the summer tourists come!:PDT11
I've often looked up at that building. I didn't know it was originally tho'
I went with a party on one of Pat Neill's guided tours (Liverpool monuments chap) It was Herbert Tyson Smiths monuments around Liverpool city centre. We kept looking up and pointing and I lost count of the number of passers-by and shoppers who stopped by us, turned and looked up to see what we were looking at or asked us. Helped on no doubt by me looking up and shouting 'don't do it' now and again :unibrow:
it's very impressive, wheabouts on the street is it exactly
