An email I received this morning =================================== Mersey's Musical Mysteries Revealed In Magical Mp3 Tour England's first MP3 city music tour - of Liverpool's world famous scene - has been launched on the web. Narrated by Pete Wylie, founder of 80s band The Mighty Wah!, the hour-long guide can take day-trippers through 50 years of world changing pop, pyschedelia, punk and dance music. Available at the fast-growing 2008 culture site www.liverpool08.com <http://www.liverpool08.com> it can be downloaded for FREE and is expected to attract global interest from music loving, Internet surfers. Wylie takes the listener on a tour of venues, music shops and buildings which have played a role in Liverpool being named 'World Capital of Pop', from landmarks such as the Cavern Club, Liverpool Wall of Fame, Jacaranda, Cream, Philharmonic Hall, Sir Paul McCartney's LIPA and Parr Street Studios to bygone venues such as NEMS Music store, once owned by Brian Epstein, and iconic 70's club Eric's. The tour of the 'World Capital of Pop' has a description of each venue, explaining its role in Liverpool's music scene; the bands and performers associated with it and the present day live music venues. Pete Wylie said: ''I was honoured to be the voice of this tour - Liverpool and music means so much to me. I had great fun reading the script. It brought back a lot of memories for me, so I've ad-libbed a bit to give people a real feel for the passion we have for music in this city.'' Produced by the Liverpool Culture Company, it is hoped the free guide will give millions of expected tourists for the city's European Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008 a unique digital dimension to their visit. Councillor Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: ''Music - be it pop, dance or classical - has made Liverpool a household name all over the world. This MP3 guide is a fitting tribute to all those who helped put the city on the map - and continue to. It's fantastic that we can use the Internet to offer visitors and music lovers a stroll through places, which hold so many magical memories and tales. It gives people a new way of looking at the city and hopefully will attract them to take the tour themselves.'' Accompanying the MP3 download is a 36-page publication, 'Sound City', which includes a 'music map' and a definitive look into who and what influenced a city to produce a record breaking 56 No 1 hits. Sound City was put together with advice from music experts such as Pete as well as BBC DJ Spencer Leigh, Andy McCluskey of OMD, Paul Du Noyer, celebrated music journalist and author of Liverpool: Wondrous Place, and Bill Harry founder of the legendary Merseybeat magazine. Both Paul and Bill also wrote articles. In the preface to Sound City, Paul Du Noyer wrote: ''Liverpool is a performers' paradise because, at heart, every Liverpudlian is a performer too - whether on the stage, from the stalls or on a barstool. There has never been a better time to become part of the show.'' Sound City also provides music lovers with highlights of the current nightlife scene, a list of record shops, the city's music festivals and suggested further reading. Jason Harborow, Chief Executive of Liverpool Culture Company, said: ''Liverpool is synonymous with music and this MP3 guide is the perfect way to bring the story up to date and appeal to a new generation of music lovers.'' Listeners can download the tour from www.liverpool08.com <http://www.liverpool08.com/> to their own computer before transferring to their MP3 player. Visitors can also print off a PDF Music Tour map to accompany their way around. The Tour follows this route: * Introduction - Whitechapel to North John Street. * Mathew Street: Cavern Pub, Cavern Wall of Fame and Cavern Club. * Mathew Street: Liverpool Wall of Fame to The White Star. * Button Street to Mount Pleasant. * Mount Pleasant to Hardman Street. * Hardman Street to Wolstenholme Square. * Wolstenholme Square to Albert Dock.
