Default Liverpool Cruise Liner Terminal

A £19M landing stage for cruise tourists to disembark in Liverpool city centre will finally get the go-ahead.

Senior council sources say work on the cruise liner terminal at Princes Dock, allowing world class vessels to join in the Capital of Culture celebrations, will begin "within weeks".

The project, along with Kings Dock and the Fourth Grace, was one of the key council pledges for the successful culture bid.

WORK will start on Liverpool's £19m cruise line facility this April.

The start of construction follows months of delay resulting from prolonged negotiations between the city council and port operator Peel Holdings.

But yesterday the council and Peel issued a joint statement saying a deal had now been reached resolving all outstanding issues.

It means the terminal should be ready in time for the launch and naming ceremony of the Queen Victoria, a Cunard cruise ship under construction in Italy.

Cunard's owner, Miami-based Carnival group, had threatened to look elsewhere for a venue to launch its new vessel if a deal was not agreed before the end of this month. more
