I GREW UP PRONOUNCING CATHARINE STREET IN LIVERPOOL 8 OR 7 AS CATH-RINE, RHYMING WITH WINE. OBVIOUSLY OTHERS AROUND ME PRONOUNCED IT THE SAME WAY IN THOSE DAYS, THE FIFTIES. WHY WAS THAT?

Hello 3ply, when we christened my daughter Katherine in 1964 my dad used the 'rine' pronunciation. I just thought he was being awkward. He was from Kirkdale. Dad, I forgive you.
