I'm surprised that this event wasn't publicized more, maybe it was but we (those who went) commented on the lack of publicity, however it was only 1pm on a Saturday afternoon, I can imagine how the Cavern would be at 10pm!

We were there to support our mate on the drums who originally posted this message the other week. They came all the way over from Sweden to play, good luck to the lads.

A Liverpool band, very good indeed. They played music like The Jam etc...

These were very good and also very 'Euorovision'. Impressive stuff.

Fine pictures, young Kev. What settings did you use in the low light?

I didn't know of it either. We were wondering through town doing Shoot Liverpool and town was full of emo's and people queuing outside the Cavern. Just a tip about gig photography, never use the flash unless you use whats called 2nd curtain. I don't know if a compact has 2nd curtain flash or not. Baically the flash fires at the end of a long exposure so you can move about a bit and the background will come out blurred but the singer can come out sharp and in focus. Its great for really energetic bands. Its better to use the natural light at a gig but due to the way a camera meters the light, depending on the modes available, it'll probably tell you its too dark. You need to use spot metering for gig shots and point the camera at the person. I think I like the 3rd shot the best. Nice use of depth of field, but I find the desaturated look, if thats what you've gone for, makes them look a bit bland. Its a gig, it should be full of energy and life, imho of course

Cheers, I've been playing about with the settings, saturation, vibrancy, contrast mostly. The camera was on automatic settings as was the flash. There is an 'SL' option for flash, is that similar to what u mean pete?

Also called 'rear curtain' or 'rear sync' I believe. 'SL' might mean slow, which might be a rear flash setting. Best bet would be to try it!

Nice pictures Kev. I like the Cavern, but I have only been once. I should really make more effort...

Brilliant pics, Kev! Wonderful that the Polar Bears could come all the way over from Sweden to play. As you say, good luck to the lads.
