Hi all

I don't know whether this same reality TV show is airing in the UK, but the Fox Soccer Channel here in the US is airing a show where young US talent try to win a contract to play for Everton. I quote:

"One young man's dream of playing for a top European soccer club will be realized this summer on Fox Soccer Channel's new reality show Soccer Dreams, debuting Saturday, June 7 at 12:00 p.m. ET.

"Fox Soccer Channel's first-ever reality show follows the story of thousands of young players in their quest to fulfill an unparalleled dream, a contract with Barclays Premier League club Everton FC of England. Talented youth soccer players between the ages of 14-19 face off and are put to the test in an effort to impress and earn the right to advance. The top 36 players will move onto the finals and live in the 'House of Champions' for the final two weeks of the contest. At the show's conclusion, one player will be awarded the coveted contract with Everton and fulfill his Soccer Dreams.

"Soccer Dreams, produced and directed by Jalal Merhi of Film One Production, will air every Saturday from 12-12:30 p.m. through August 9. It will then move to 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturdays from August 16 through August 30."

I suppose its one way of increasing awareness of Everton worldwide, they have just taken the winner of a Chinese idol show on as well.

Thanks, SteH. I also thought it was interesting that in the goalless draw between the United States and Argentina played at Giants Stadium last weekend before a crowd of 78,000, Tim Howard of Everton was in goal for the United States, and Liverpool's Javier Mascherano captained Argentina (and was sent off!). Am I right in saying that Brian McBride played for Everton, or am I dreaming that? Certainly the number of talented Americans who have been able to play successfully in the Premier League, including McBride, Howard, Brad Friedel, Casey Keller, Jonathan Spector, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Lewis, and Carlos Bocanegra, etc., gives the lie to the idea that American soccer is "Mickey Mouse."

Yes he did for 3 months at the end of 2003, Everton asked to extend the loan in January 04 but the MLS rejected it, and he signed a permanent deal with Fulham instead.
