Very interesting. I knew about St. Katharine's Chapel in nearby Lydiate but was unaware of St Andrew's Chapel. Good work, gregs dad.

I found this website with a shot of the Maghull chapel and historical information:

Did you get his house on Station Road with the blue plaque GD. I think Lindy put a pic of it on the blue plaques thread a good while back.

Yes, it should be there somewhere. I often pass by that way. My dad lives in Maghull.

Be nice if we can get some more pics of the area into this thread.

Planning application submitted to build 300 homes at Ashworth Hospital site in Maghull
Aug 4 2011
by Linda Foo Guest, Maghull and Aintree Star

A PLANNING application has been submitted to build 300 homes at the Ashworth Hospital site in Maghull.
The planning application is on behalf of Mersey Care NHS Trust. They hope to get planning permission to build up to 300 homes on 7.85 hectares adjacent to the existing Ashworth Hospital in Parkbourn.
The proposal is to demolish a range of buildings and redevelop the site.

It says it will be of medium density housing with a variety of building and sizes to respond to local need and demand

I'm pleased something is being built on the Ashworth Hospital site. With the prison being scrapped, and the roundabout and pedestrian crossing across School Lane being installed it makes sense to build here. Plus, these new houses might give Merseytravel and Sefton council a reason to finally create 'Maghull North' railway station.
