My own dog is a rescued Staffie. The cruelty ,neglect and ill treatment of these wonderful dogs is a sin.
This much maligned breed has got so much bad press over the years because of the idiots who use them as a macho status symbol. :PDT_Xtremez_12:
People who truly love them are left to pick up the pieces. SBTR do a fantastic job - unfortunately it is a never ending task.
Cats.
Along with 3 other people I help to feed a colony of feral cats. Last year, with the help of the Cats protection league and the Freshfields animal sanctury, the colony was neutered in the hope that no more kittens will be born wild. It is heartbreaking to see them out in the winter weather. They survive mainly, but we have seen some of them killed on the road.
Actually, I am late going to feed them because I am sitting here typing this post !! :PDT_Xtremez_42: :) ha,ha, it's fatal to pop in here for a few mins - you end up sitting here half an hour !! :D

You are doing a great job there:handclap:. I agree entirely about staffies, if we could get rid of all the numpties who own them just to show off there would be no problem., they are truly wonderful dogs in the right hands.

Yes, that's just one of the cats and they are all quite shy. There are 2 black & whites and a ginger which are a little more tamer - although all of them are very cautious and won't allow you too near.
I have been feeding the cats for approx 3 years or more. I have seen times when the colony was getting very large, but since we have managed to get them neutered, it is diminishing in numbers - which is a good thing for their own sake. We don't want any more kittens being born. The others will remain to live out their natural life the best way they can. It's a shame, I always think of them when we are having bad weather.

It's a pity that the cats can't be homed but they are so wild that they can't be handled. The policy of the cats rescue is to spay them and release them back to where they came from. The cats protection league provide vouchers to help with vets fees.
A long time back I had posted a picture on another thread of some of the cats, but two of them were sadly killed on the road and I deleted the picture as it was sad to see them. :(
You get to know the cats and and it's very sad when anything happens to them.

lindylou that is a beautiful photo, yes whoever said animals are dumb?.
Here is a poem you might like:)
Mans Best Friend?
Come take me from this stinking smell
From cage of fear and living hell
I'm six years old no more pups for me
I have done my deed will soon be 'free'
From the squalor of the puppy farm
I 've done my time but done no harm
And lost the loves I thought were mine
I am useless now and that's a crime
As for reward I'll be put to rest
With a shot to the head
To make room for the next
She will sit in my cage, she will never be free
And continue, as mine, this life's misery
And what of the puppies?
What happens to them?
At five weeks old they are dragged from my pen
Replaced by a male to start over again
So who ever said we are 'mans best friend'!
Pups crated up travel far and wide
To unknown places but some won't survive
For those that do will be sold for a profit
But the people who buy them will be out of pocket
For the sake of my puppies
Put a stop to it now
Please break up this chain
For I don't know how.
Cathy Saxon 2003
Written by a lady who bought a puppy farm pup and had to have him pts age one because of his illneses. Please don't buy puppies from pet shops or ads in newspapers.

These are our two dogs, the fluffy cream one is otis and the other missy, supposed to be brother and sister, they were found abandoned on some wasteland in a builders bag in 30 degrees heat at only about 3wks old bless, they are now nearly two and have the best temprement you could ask for, they are also inseperable as you can see, in the summer the like to take a dip in the pool also, the kids think this is great!!!

Blackie (below )was my mums dog.Very intelligent and well trained. It was a cross between a German Shepherd and a black lab.The dog lived until he was 14.

Next 2 pics are of my German Shepherd Heidi. 1st pic shows what happened when I pointed and said "baghead".

And here's Molly my Black Lab.Brilliantly trained to do absolutely anything.
A gentle dog yet somehow she knew how to bark like a Great Dane.
I could make her pull a smile (see 2nd pic) and make her go in the down position immediately no matter how far away from me she was.

He was a great Dog Blackie (number 2).He would open the toilet door and pee in the toilet. He dribbled and didn't pull the chain so it wasn't that good.
Blackie (Number 1) was killed by Phil Thompson .Yeah him with the big nose.

[QUOTE=lindylou;129087]I love dogs and cats too. :) I am a member of a SBT rescue. Also I donate to Boote home for cats.

My own dog is a rescued Staffie. The cruelty ,neglect and ill treatment of these wonderful dogs is a sin.
This much maligned breed has got so much bad press over the years because of the idiots who use them as a macho status symbol. :PDT_Xtremez_12:

Your dogs are all just lovely..
The rescue places (like Bootle rescue home for Cats), all need old towels, rugs, etc... I donate here in my home..and I know, anytime you may think a towel is too old.. these rescue homes would love the donations of them ... Thanks for sharing... and donating time and loving the animals of this planet..

I wonder how many people know that the Foundation for guide dogs for the blind Association was started in New Brighton at The Cliff in 1931.
The memorial shown here is outside the new Pavilion which has just been comleted.

My mother and sister have both had Staffordshire dogs from the rescue people. My mothers dog was used as a breeder, the vet said she'd been bred nearly to death. M ysisters dog was rescued as it was badly looked after and beaten. Both lovely dogs. I don't trust them on their own with small kids though. There are some bad muthers out there treating animals bad. The dogs still wag their tail when their torturer comes to them.

This is my stupid dog. Rescued off the streets. She has been a battered dog and when we got her she was very nervy. She still is afraid of loud noises, but still working on that. She hears very well with them big stupid ears of hers. Love her cos she is great with kids, even when they were pulling her ears. She used to just move away. Lousey house dog though, she would help the burglars.
Oh, if there are any burglars reading this, she is a trained attack dog.
