I left it rather late going out today as I was away with the fairies on my new tablets this morning. by the time I finally got into town it was well after 5 pm. I dithered a bit of where I was going to go then impulse took over and I jumped a bus to London Rd. I decided to get a pic of Galkoff's butchers. as I was going up Pembroke Place I suddenly spotted summat in the sky. Couldn't get my camera out quick enough, it was the new airbus 380! Clearly on it's way to be fitted out. My zoom is erratic, but I managed a couple of pics. I'm still grinning now, it made my day. I saw it when it first flew across the city last year, but no camera with me that day. Today I couldn't believe my luck.

(N.B...Chris has kindly pointed out it's the Beluga carrying the wings and parts to the factory.) still nice to see such a mighty piece of engineering

Fantastic site isn't it! I was slacking at work last year on the top floor and noticed this massive beast heading across Liverpool at what seemed to be a very slow speed - no camera but when it passed by, it made my day too!

thank my camera! sheer fluke as most pics were blurred. it looks like summat from Thunderbirds with the 3 on it. I'm assuming that's the 3rd one to be built.

I found it as exciting as seeing Concorde, although not as sleek and beautiful, it's size is awesome.

This is the plane they use for carrying wings and parts for Airbus projects around
Europe it affectionately known as the Beluga.

The Airbus A380 wings are too big for the plane and are floated down the River Dee on a barge to Mostyn where this ship takes them to Bordeaux in France, then by barge again. How do they make a profit on that plane?

Here is the barge at the River Dee at Broughton Airport, where the wing factory is:

The picture of the barge. There looks like WW2 bomb craters on the grass. They made Wellington bombers there. The Luftwaffe could have been trying to get the factory.

It's a common sight flying low over my house here in Chester as it takes off from the factory at Broughton just down the road. Don't know where it was headed flying over Liverpool.

It's really called a Beluga but is locally known as the 'Guppy'.

Wasn't the old propeller driven plane they used to use called the Guppy?

after my embarrassment with that plane I'm not even going to attempt to identify these I saw over Ogdens today

Yep. I used to spend most of my time as a kid with Jane's Book of Aircraft at my window, even did my work experience at Broughton, the site is huge and so is the beluga. Thankfully i'm more sociable now although my girl friend still thinks i act like a kid when i hear a plane or helicopter :P.

thank you. :PDT_Piratz_26:
it was about 4:15 when I took it. I hear a loud roar and looked up, by the time my camera bothered itself to switch on they'd almost gone.

I've seen the Beluga on many an occasion over Chester / Ellesmere Port on it's way into Broughton. It is an amazing sight.

I still miss the Concorde on Grand National day though, that was one of those things you always remember. I used to love seeing the Concorde and one year it flew right over our house, so low you could see the badges / markings underneath clear as day.
