IT didn’t take a genius to work out Alan Stubbs’ intentions as he sent the tray of energy drinks scooting across Goodison Park on the final whistle. If the Everton centre-back had taken out his frustrations on the REAL target for his anger, he would be staring at six months inside — let alone a fine and ban.
To say ref Mark Clattenburg was not flavour of the month with Blues fans is similar to suggesting Amy Winehouse likes a small sherry before lunch.

It was hard to disagree with them as well. Wrong decisions, non-decisions, changed decisions — you name it, Clattenburg served it up. And to the benefit of those in Red every time.

CRASH! Dirk Kuyt launched a flying, two-footed lunge at Phil Neville — a straight red in anyone’s language. Result? One yellow card for the Dutchman.


BANG! Kuyt rubs salt into the wound by picking himself up to bang in the late, late penalty winner as Neville himself sees red. Result? Everton robbed of a point they more than merited.

WALLOP! Deep in stoppage time, Jamie Carragher wrestled Joleon Lescott to the floor right in front of the official’s nose, two yards out. Result? No penalty and Liverpool home and dry.

Clattenburg also put away the yellow card he was initially going to produce for Tony Hibbert’s foul on Steven Gerrard before flashing red.

The ref may have realised he held the wrong card as Hibbert denied Gerrard an open goal. Yet the fact he produced red after a word from the Anfield captain left a sour taste. Stubbs wears his heart on his sleeve more than anyone else in blue.

You imagine it will still be a few days before the warhorse simmers down again.

He raged: �You should ask the ref rather than me about his performance. I’m baffled.
