Liverpool's answer to the Notting Hill Carnival Parade is getting ready to sweep through the streets of the city.
The Brouhaha Carnival Parade, the region’s largest multi-cultural procession, will represent the final part of the Brouhaha International Street Festival's (http://www.brouhaha.uk.com/) four-year carnival arts programme, ‘Crossing Waters’, depicting the story of Liverpool’s participation in the transatlantic slave trade through the costume designs of award-winning artist Ray Mahabir (http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/articles/2004/07/27/faith_faces_ray_mahabir_07_feature.shtml).
The fourth installment ‘Viey La Cou, theatre of the streets’, will bring together, for 2008, local, national and international costumed participants to create the largest single body of carnival arts work in the UK.
In the run-up to the event, the participating groups and communities will take part in a range of arts workshops with some of the world’s finest musicians, dancers, costume makers, puppeteers and stilt walkers.
The spectacular procession takes place in the city centre and Princes Park on 2 August 2008. It's part of the 'Imagine' Festival, 10 days of events and activities co-ordinated by the Liverpool Culture Company, encouraging young people and their parents to use their imagination and creativity.
