Exclamation HUB Festival 2008

Are you ready for two days of funky break-dancing, beatboxing, mad tricks and mighty fine music?

You've invited to the UK's biggest and best free urban youth festival, in the European Capital of Culture.

From 17-18 May, extreme sports fans, skaters, bboys, bgirls and bands will take over Otterspool Promenade in Liverpool.

Amateur competitions, free promos, loads of prize giveaways and legends in BMX, skate boarding, break-dancing and graffiti art will all add to the mix.

Just confirmed: the Animal Bike Tour is back for Hub 2008

New for 2008

Watch out for the fashion police on patrol for Hub's funkiest dressed students. (Students? Shouldn't that be open to all?)

You could win loads of Animal goodies, including hoodies, backpacks, watches & more! (kindly donated by our friends at Animal).

Two huge outdoor LED screens will show the UK's only outdoor international break-dance competition, as well as amateur skate park competitions.

And one of the UK's best human beat boxers Shlomo will perform a one hour set using only his voice.

Spread the word

Tell your mates to keep the weekend of 17-18 May free.

Hub festival hopefuls go through their paces
May 16 2008
by Vicky Anderson, Liverpool Daily Post

MORE than 20,000 people are expected to get down to Otterspool Park in Liverpool this weekend for the sixth annual Hub festival.

The free event takes place over two days from 11am to 6pm tomorrow and Sunday.

The Hub festival is a mix of urban art, music and extreme sports including skateboarding, BMX, in-line skating, and body popping.

Festival entertainment will include Shlomo “the world’s finest human beatboxer”, MCs and DJs, Double Dutch hip-hop dancers and live music from unsigned bands from across Merseyside.

An urban village selling extreme sports equipment, 250m-long graffiti wall, “Well B’In Zone” with health and lifestyle advice, Team Extreme skate park and free workshops are just some of the activities for visitors to get involved in.

Event organiser Susan Whitehead said: “Hub’s reputation as one of the best urban youth festivals in the country is travelling.

“The line-up at Hub this year is definitely the best we’ve ever had. I’m sure festival-goers will love the improvements we’ve made for 2008.’’

The Hub festival was established by the Culture Company during the bid to become the 2008 European City of Culture.

The rain spoilt most of HUB yesterday.

Today the sun is-a shining. Anyone going?

Hub festival breaks records
May 19 2008
by Vicky Anderson, Liverpool Daily Post

ANNUAL urban youth festival Hub took place over the weekend, attracting the biggest attendance in its six-year history.

Around 23,000 people visited Otterspool Park over Saturday and Sunday to watch and participate in activities including extreme sports demonstrations and a stage of unsigned local bands.

Delighted organisers said that attendance had broken records set at last year’s festival when 18,000 people showed up.

It was all the more surprising as Hub, usually held in July, was bought forward to May.
