This is where we will be next week on holiday. Our cottage in the Lake District, no traffic,no noise pollution, no light pollution. Its that quiet when a bird flies past you can hear the beat of it`s wings. You are able to see the stars at night which you don`t see at home because of light pollution.

This is one of the highest pubs in England so there is never a chance of warm beer. It seems to change ownership frequently, it must be the solitude gets them down. In bad weather it is often cut off, cars not able to climb the pass

We have just spent 3 days in York on our golden wedding honeymoon.
The National Gallery had the novel idea of hanging copies of famous paintings around the walled city.
The texture of the copies have the feel of real canvas, this is Turner`s Calais Pier in a good place by a life belt on the banks of the Ouse.

Hope it didn't rain on that painting and that yous had a great time. I like the shambles there, did you go on the ghost walk?

The paintings are left out all the time all that happens is the gilt flakes off the frames on some of them, they are printed on some kind of plastic surface.
We spent mornings walking on the river banks, then visiting all the churches in the afternoon, evenings in the pubs for our dinner. Missus said it was better than our first honeymoon as she never liked sleeping in a tent.
Saw people going past our pubs on the Ghost Walk Ged, in the evening,

Clifford Tower in York.
Built in 1086 the original one was wooden but in 1190 it was burned down as the Jewish population of the town had taken refuge inside to escape the citizens of York who layed siege to it. This was at the time of continental persecution of the Jewish people, and many commited suicide.
It was rebuilt of stone in 1270. It gets its name from a gent who was hanged there.
They charge pensioners £2.40 to walk to the top of it. It`s worth it because the views from the top are good. I never counted the steps.

Were you camping GD? I'm on the lookout for a campsite Keswick/Borrowdale area that can take a caravan?
Hi Chris,no I stay in a cottage in Longthwaite in the Borrowdale valley. When I reached 70 last year I retired my camping gear after 52 years of Lake District camping.
There are plenty of sites in Keswick some cheap and some expensive. If you have family the site that has everything is Castlerigg Hall just before you enter Keswick. I stayed there when the foot and mouth closed my normal site
and was surprised by the amount of stuff that was available, but it all comes at a price. The council runs a caravan park in Keswick itself .
My site I used for years was in Stonethwaite it is very basic the only hot water is the showers which cost 50p,there is no hook up for caravans but they do allow caravans to park up there. It`s near the end of the valley of
Borrowdale so it is used as a base for all the big hills if you are interested in walking. Try googling Keswick and Borrowdale for sites.

The lifeboat was built to hold 60 people but now is limited to 12 in this river

How about this for a coincidence, this is St Mary the Virgin`s church in a village called Wingham in Kent which has a clock and a sundial fixed to the wall, and there is a church in West Derby with the same which also has clock and a sundial on the wall

I've got a great camera at present but it takes film. I'm after a digital that can switch lenses as I've got boat loads of lenses and need to use them. Do all these cameras have that facility to change lenses.

If yer do look around and are in the market for one? two aspects to remember...The screwthread size both on the mount and the front of the lense for the common size thread for putting filters on.
This Fuji thread is slightly smaller and the common filters won't fit.

99 per cent are taken with a Lumix LZ2 compact camera the other 1 per cent
with a Canon EOS 350D SLR , which I find a bit of a weight to carry on my walkabouts or bike rides.
