LYR marker

not sure what to put this under really.

we have a couple of railway bridges around the corner and this marker is next to the huge brick arch one

assuming it to be Lancashire Yorkshire Railway.

dont think the rubble was a signal box, but the old line which has been demolished from north mersey branch junction to North mersey goods and the Overhead railway,

the signal box and the line mentioned can be seen in this pic,

once the bridge was demolished, it revealed the other line behind it, the one in your pic from seaforth and litherland station

just to add, if the rubble is were the red arrow is, itll be the remains of the old line, demolished in the 70s

also, the southport-liverpool bridge that has been removed when the line was reduced from 4 lines to 2 is interesting the way theyve cut it with an acetalene torch and left a bit in, usually they just knock the bricks away and lift it out.

thanks for those b/w pics.
the straight line leading to the curve on the pic runs along the bottom of our garden. rubble on the right looking at that pic .
our part of the estate was built on an old builders yard which was up against the embankment. when travelling on the train if you look towards the docks you can see the line of the old houses and where the track would have run.
If I can muster some energy I'll try and get some pics looking down towards where Seaforth Sands station was. I've got an aerial pic of the area from the 40's somewhere plus a recent one to compare.

I'll have a rummage through my files...
the rubble is one of old brick supports.
right, I'm not very techy so this will have to do

yes it is. it's flats now. there's a large match there too. will get a photo and post it up later.

Hi

These are boundary markers and odd ones can still be found around the city. There are several in the pavement close to the old Sefton Park station on Smithdown Road marking 'LNWR Boundary'.

From memory the best is in the carpark area of the clothing supplier near the railway fence line. Another 2 (I think) in the pavement outside/near the old station building which is now a stove enamellers. These last ones are very worn and just look like semicircular iron discs set in to the pavement. The first one I mentioned can be clearly read.

Glad you found them! There are (were) 2 or 3 along the fence line in the Mystery.

finally managed to clamber up the embankment today of where the other LYR line ran.

our house was built on the site of the original embankment.

at the bottom of the fence you can just make out the remains of one of the bridge bases
