Its not Jamaica Street, thats an old street on the Toxteth/city centre boundary. There are a few streets off Boundary Street in Kirkdale with Welsh names so it may well be have been there, sure someone will have an old map that can pinpoint its location.

That's the one and it's still there along with other Welsh Streets such as Denbigh and Barmouth, the Scottie Press website has details of that area.

WOW!! You guys are GREAT!!!
I have learn't more about Liverpool here, from complete strangers, than any of the family we have there.
I have been asking my husband's family for info for years but they never do anything. One family member claims to have a whole heap of books & pics & info they have been 'sending' us for the past 2 years.
Here I have learn't so much in 2 weeks.
Thank You all so much :):):):)

Now that I have buttered you up.....ha ha...only joking, has anyone any pics of the area around Newport & Townsend st's. Either from now or the late 1800's or do you know where I can find some?

Hey Ged,

Thanks for the link, great pic. I've just checked where Newport st was on Google Earth & I think it's now a park! What a shame. But I would still love some pics especially of Townsend st.
This is the area where my husband's family come from so anything from there would be great.
I'm in Australia so there's not much I can do to repay your kindness, but if there's anything you want to know I'm sure I can help.

Hi again,

I'm looking at the site you gave me & there are a few pics of Townsend ave, do you now if that is the same as Townsend st?

No, Townsend Ave is Liverpool 11 to 13, a different area of the city altogether.

I think those streets are covererd by grassland nowadays. It's the section near where canal boats are made (between Luton Street and Blackstone Street)

Ok Sleuths, looking for Bartlam st & Harford Lane. Anyone know where they were?

I think Harford Lane must have been inbetween Brownlow Hill and Mount Pleasant, Bartlam St must be nearby.

This is the grassy area between Great Howard Street and Boundary Street. Townsend Street is just to the left of the tall warehouse (on the right of the picture). Some of these warehouses look late 1800s to me and Townsend Street still has its' old metal street-sign.

Townsend Street. The weather was rubbish for any decent pics, but here's the sign. This was one of the very few old ones I noticed around here.

Hiya Marky, I got down there too.

This pic is of the Liverpool Boat Co and the street sign on the wall. Looking East up the street.

The street sign a bit closer but not as close as Marky's.

The opposite (south-east) corner of the street. No street sign here though.
