Only upbeat stories and plenty of back slapping welcome on this thread (after all it's not concerning lfc ha ha)

A good start is that one of our midget gems has won the prestigious Echo sports personality of the year award - and well deserved it is too - Well done Mikel.

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/moyes-hails-mikel.html

and the Echo's write up too

Arrr eh, a gatecrasher.

Let's see

Chelsea were mentioned.....erm

Will it be inter Milan :)

Anyway....back to feeling good again.

A new echo supplement is out concerning Goodsion great strikers.

Dixie Dean's 60 league goals will Never, ever, ever be beaten - that's good to know. But...there's so many more records he broke such as being the youngest to reach certain milestones and career hat tricks etc.

He was also England first No.9 - that coveted number used by the best strikers the world over.

The 1933 F.A. Cup final saw numbers introduced for the first time. Everton wore 1-11, Man City were 12-22.

The most important numbers during that game through were 3 and nil - the score we beat them by ;)

Andy Gray, another of the famous Everton strikers who won more with us in his 18 months than he did elsewhere was crowned with the Dixie Dean memorial trophy.

http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/tm_headline=andy-gray-my-everton-spell-meant-so-much%26method=full%26objectid=20437764%26siteid=50 061-name_page.html

Paul Power, Ian Atkins and Ian Wilson were other players who spring to mind who spent a lot of years elsewhere, particularly Power at Man City only to win nothing until they came to Everton.

On the other hand, poor old war-horse Mick Lyons got into the team the year after winning a trophy and left 14 years later just as we were about to win our next. Maybe he was a jinx after all ;)

3 cheers for Braveheart Andy Gray.

Hippip Horray,

Hippip Horray,

Only 3 times before in it's 36 year history has there been a special award presented at the same time as the Echo sports personality of the year.

Everton effectively made it a double swoop last night as hero Dave Hickson made it No.4.

He is currently one of the Everton striking heroes honoured in a new Echo supplement too which features the likes of Dixie Dean, Tommy Lawton (who actually scored more England goals than Bobby Charlton but as many were war-time did not count), Bob Latchford, Graeme Sharp and of course the Golden Vision.

Read more here and feel proud to feel good.

Yes, even though we also had a near 2nd string out it still should have been good enough, just like the part time plumbers, bankers and binmen shouldn't have scored 2 and been all level at half time at Anfield :unibrow:

Hmmm, I know, I'd be annoyed at Rafa putting more emphasis on a cup k.o. than the league. I mean you can even lose in that (like you did to little Graz in the qualifiers) or even come 5th, not qualify but get the rules changed and still win it.

Gordon Lee = Frankenstein's monster.

He did stifle McKenzie though I remember a few good seasons, my first one proper, Latchford's 30 goals - the last 2 being against Chelsea in the last game of the season.

1980 was ok too, we saw Freddie Starr down at the Holt end, Villa Park in the f.a. cup semi final, Brian Kidd got sent off and we drew 1-1, stuart Houston (ex Man Utd) scored for West Ham, Kidd scored a pen for us, Trevor Ross got knocked out with a pile driver on the edge of the area.

Liverpool were playing Arsenal in the other semi, a none footy fan mate of mine said after they drew too that it would be a West Ham v Arsenal final, he was laughed and kicked out of the pub - we all know what happened next.

Everton went to Elland Road and after (I think), Alan Devonshire scored after tearing us apart including if memory serves me correct, new boy Kevin Ratcliffe wearing No.6, fat Billy Wright cruised down the wing and put in a 100mph cross that was so powerful it was worthy of a shot had it been on target - enter big Bob who launched himsefl full stretch 1-1 game on.

Alas, although it was a good game there was no cigar, Fat Frank Lampard's dad got the winner as his effort trundled past Martin Hodge in goal via a divet.

Footnote. Here's a little quiz for you both or anyone else.

Sunderland did it in 1979, Villa did it in 1981, who did it in 1980?

I went to the game and was on the half-way line, and that is not how it went. Everton dominated so much in the first half they hardly got out of their half at all. The second half they came at Everton more, although not threatening. Their goal started at the half way line and it was well worked, although the move should have been stopped way up the field. Lachford's header was one of the best I have seen, ever, to equalise. Then Lampard got a fluke winner They couldn't believe their luck. Their next league was against Shrewsbury at home and were beat 3-1. Everton should have seen them off in the 1st game. Kidd was sent off for nothing.

Great to see that the officially confirmed Evertonian is still wisecracking too. On the Brits last night, in reference to his court shananigans with mucca he said 'it's good to be back to my day job again'.

He stole the show too when getting his life achievement award.

Well the tickets sold out faster than I could get one so had to settle for the pub.

I remember a distant voice called asbo saying wait till we play city who will finish above us - worlds apart I think tonight.

The trouble is the petrov sending off doesn't help us in the 89th minute, only teams they might have finished above such as lfc :unibrow:

The ref might have helped us earlier though had he spotted 2 blatant handballs by stephan hench...sorry no, Mica Richards - never even got spoken to for either.

Class told in the end, just sorry we were missing our most influential midfielder and that we didn't go for the jugular towards the end, Moysie must be confident 4th place won't go to goal difference.

Yes, he certainly doesn't go missing where it matters..........

''The Nigerian carried on where he left off with his hat-trick against SK Brann last Thursday by side-footing the visitors into a 30th-minute lead that, given their outstand-ing defensive form since the turn of the year, they never looked like surrendering.

His 16th goal of the season, Yakubu showed that, while returning from international tournaments has proven troublesome, the penalty area is one place where he doesn’t go missing.''

Full report here:

It also puts Howard on the same number of clean sheets for the season as Reina who I think is a half decent goalie. Howard is the only goalie to boast that no top flight player has beaten him in 2008 up to yet as we enter March.

I notice we've yet to have a penalty in the prem this season though, a travesty as shown last night (twice) perhaps all those who think Johnson is a diver (and Keith Hackett isn't one of them) need to re-examine their thoughts.

Dontcha just love it at the mo.

Here's Cahill talking about the mood in the camp, and doesn't it just show on the pitch, they seem to know where to go on the pitch when they have and when they haven't got the ball simlilarly.

“We play for each other and that is always the case when we put that Blue shirt on. We’ll play anywhere and do anything for this club. We had a few boys doing different jobs at different times but we got on with it. Everyone is fighting for the cause.”

What a time to be hitting the heights and to almost have all our players fit, willing and ready. Another 6 pointer against Portsmouth next to be followed by games we should run away with whilst others around us have to play the top 2 away from home but can't even beat them at home :)

"Benitez has spent £146m in less than four years, with £70m recovered, with his predecessor Gérard Houllier getting through £119m, against sales of approximately £57m in roughly the same period. In six years Moyes has spent £79.1m and recovered £51.9m or, put another way, turned relegation candidates into increasingly significant players at the sharper end of the Premier League at an annual cost of something less than £5m a year".
