DRUGS, domestic violence and bullying are subjects of three of a series of five short films crafted from stories written by local people in the Dovecot area of Liverpool as part of a ground-breaking arts project.
Everyman and Playhouse (http://www.everymanplayhouse.com/) writer in residence Tony Green spearheaded the idea with support from their outreach co-ordinator, Jackie Skinner, who persuaded groups of residents from Dovecot to develop their previously untapped talents.
According to Deborah Aydon, executive director of the theatres, the idea was to encourage people to find their own voice through writing and to give them key skills not only in literacy and communication but also in creative expression.
It is collaboration between the two Liverpool theatres and others throughout the country with the Arts Council England, which has been branded as Fivearts Cities, a scheme that is documenting the quality of art throughout the nation.
Two years ago, Fivearts teamed up with the Liverpool theatres to launch this exciting writing initiative and the residents who penned the stories include Patsy Murphy, Cheryl Kent, Dave Hughes, David Deane and Pat O'Brien.
The films were shot on location in Dovecot using professional actors and crew.
* THE films are premiered tomorrow at 7.30pm, in the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre.
