Is it me or are TV theme tunes or songs crap now? The entire under 12 population of Fazakerley would disappear indoors when I was a kid if anyone heard a note of "Dr Who" (the old one) or "Mission Impossible". Come to think about it, "Danger Man" was pretty cool as well. Surely there must be some newer ones or where these the best? Any thoughts?

I loved the theme of the tune "The Flashing Blade" - a historical drama dubbed into English from French.

For White Horses, try this one:

Edit: Sorry, don't know why that one won't show - if you go to youtube and key in White Horses it definitely works.

it's amazing how much the french gave us in tv terms, the magic roundabout was a french series that the bbc bought and made up new character names and dubbed new story lines over it. turned out to be classic kids tv

As a dramatic theme tune, Perry Mason/Ironside was about the best.

As music "Brideshead Revisited" is hard to beat.

I do remember the programme but wasn't aware that it was Scandinavian. Seem we imported a lot back in those days. I remember a Heidi which I think was also dubbed.

My mate Scott without hesitation would say Dallas and I have to say; it is a mighty good theme tune for a TV Show!
I liked the Liver Birds' theme tune; it was happy go lucky and had a few good pics of the city on the front!

liverbirds lyrics just for Wallasy,
Whats got four legs, walks peculier
Talks with all the choicest words
What's got four arms, loves to grab you
Answer is two Liver Birds
If you're standing on the corner
All alone and feeling low
Liver Birds'll come and grab you
Singing ee i ad ee o
I think they were sung by the Scaffold (Lily the Pink & Thank u very much)
Based on the song:
On a mountain stands a lady
Where it is I do not know (or Who she is I do not know)
All she wants is gold and silver
All she wants is a nice young man.

Ted Astley is an unsung genius. He wrote the music for many of the British TV series of the 1960s, that were world-wide successes. Many people know of his music, but have never heard of him - from Warrington. He would put in unconventional instruments, like the harpsichord in the music for Danger Man:

I started so I will finish.....................Read all the posts and brought back some fab memories but even though I though "Man in A Suitcase" was tops I admit I had forgotten the sheer genius that was "The Human Jungle" Anyone remember it? Herbert Lom as a Psychiatrist helping to sort out various dysfunctional folk. That and of course, as mentioned, the theme from "Robinson Crusoe"; how gorgeous can a theme be? Us 50 odd types will remember "William Tell" which using the William Tell Overture went "Come away, come away with William Tell, Come away to the land he loved so well, see a bell see a bell when the apple fell for tell in Switzerland" bonkers really but rousing. Also the theme for the Lone Ranger, of Course. I read that the true test of an intellectual is if they could listen to the Wiliam Tell Overture without thinking "Hi Ho Silver, Awaaaaayyyy!!!!" Well, I was not on the intellectual team!! Happy Days; 9 kids, 2 parent, a nan and my mate on 6 chairs in a three bed house watching the Lone Ranger. Bliss

William Tell was sung by Harry James the Beatle's Music publisher. He ripped them off big style. He was paid little for singing the song (a one off fee) and it went for decades all around the world. He realised that big money was in publishing, and Brian Esptein walked into his scruffy little office and naively gave him the deal of a lifetime - over half.
Harry James also ripped off Elton John to. Elt took him to court and he had to repay him a part of the money he took. James was a horrible man.
The Human Jungle theme was very nice. White Horses was nice.
Best - Prisoner (still havent been to Portmeirion)
Worst - Prisoner Cell Block H (music to hang to)

That `Man in a suitcase' music is now on the radio. I thinks it's the City Talk theme for the early morning show. There again, I could be wrong.
