hi can anyone tell me about st anne st please. i have just found out my dad lived there when he came over from the isle of man as a little kid.(1945/6) his father had stables there because he had shire horses for his cart, where would these stables be? any help is really appreciated

Central Library have street directories which should list your father.
I don't think anybody on this site has them from the 1940s.
What else would you like to know about St Anne Street?

St. Anne Street was once an affluent area of Merchant Houses which included the judges residences complete with rear bowling greens. Queen Victoria and her consort Prince Albert once staying in one that's still there and marks the occassion. The on-set of slum courts infringing into this area led to the departures of the gentry to the Southern suburbs. Many of these fine houses then became lodging houses. St. Annes Church and Holy Trinity were the parishes until the early 1970s when they were demolished.

Does anyone know why the two carriageways are on different levels just north of the junction with New Islington? Northbound sinks down about 15 feet below southbound.
