View Full Version : Sweeney Todd - Tim Burton's musical
I saw this musical wonder last night, very good film. The music/singing was excellent, the setting was brilliant, my fave film for some time.
Not as gory as you would think.
Anyone seen it?

I've not seen it Kev
The musical side of it has put me off.
I love Burton and Depp, but I have read lots of books on the legend and fact of Sweeney Todd, and this film has almost no fact in it.
I probably will watch it though!

Haveing seen it i thought it a load of Papa, Oscar, Oscar, Depp can't sing, the acting was wooden, the best actor was the Cockaroach that was killed by Helena Bonham Carter all in all didn't like it at all.

Hi Kev
I have reviewed Sweeney Todd for Ripperologist and will post my review here in a few days once the January issue is published. Basically, I thought it well worth seeing--a great spectacle and well acted, despite what drone_pilot said. I have to admit that I closed my eyes during all the throat cutting scenes though.

Went to see it last night - is still gory though! Based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim. Johnny Depp's singing sounds like David Bowie :)

Apparently, the musical side has been played down in the advertising, because it's thought that it will put people off.
I've never liked musicals, but will watch ANY film with music by Ennio Morricone!

Once Upon A Time In America is one of the best soundtracks ever. As are The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Casualties of War. :PDT11

They're all great, but don't forget "Cinema Paradiso".

Was going to see it but the musical aspect put me off it. I know the Sweeney Todd story and it doesn't sound right being made to a musical. I like musicals but they have their place.
