Walton Junction station info required

I'm looking for information about Walton Junction station as I'm finding it hard to pin down.
Can anyone tell me where it was (on the corner of which road or whatever), when it opened, when it closed and what stands in its place now?
I believe there was a crash there in June 1867 in which a number of people were killed.
All info very gratefully received, thanks in advance for your help.

I'd also suggest a newspaper search. It's possible that some reports may already be on the internet -- I tried to see if the Mersey Times (http://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/) site might have something but failed to find anything. You might recheck there also though.

Thanks Chris. Sadly, you can only take the tiniest peek at the book online (a sentence and a half for each search result) and the actual volume is about £17. :( Still, a slight lead none the less. Cheers.

researchwriter: you're probably best starting a new thread in order to receive more views and info. also try the Sub Brit site. which I did before you answered my question... in the other thread (http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4126&page=9)... this has got too confusing now hasn't it?

Incidentally, I'd still like to know more about when the station opened, when it changed over to being Walton station and anything anyone knows about the crash.

I answered it in the other thread before I saw this one, which probably appeared in the half hour I spent finding and then checking maps!
