View Full Version : Waterfront Beat
Anyone remember this police drama, ran for two series in 1990 and 1991 and was based around the Albert Dock? It probably wasnt the best but living in London at the time I was glad of something that reminded me of home.

It rings a bell, although I never watched it. Liverpool One was one I caught and enjoyed.

I remember that programme, I watched it, I thought it was filmed in Runcorn because they kept on finding bodies by the Runcorn Bridge down on the Mersey and the shots I seen where from Runcorn

Are you sure you're not thinking of Merseybeat there, which was set in Runcorn then Liverpool and ran c2000-2004.

2008 is the year when opportunities should be taken to either resurrect one of these Liverpool set serial dramas or commission a new one.
The Street for example, written about Liverpool yet set in Manchester. This should not have happened.

Really gets on my nerves that, talented Liverpool writers doing stuff based but in the end its Manchester that gets the economic benefits and screen shots.

Oh yeah! thats the prog, I read somewhere that a writer from Liverpool approached BBC to forward to them an idea that he had to do a series based somewhere in Liverpool like Brookside to replace Neighbours slot. But they turned it down and got another Australian soap to replace it called The Beach, I think it centres about a students reunion centred on The Beach.
Whatever happened to giving FRESH Writers or even writers who have been going for a while a chance to Air their stuff. Instead we still get all those same old British/Australian/American repeats on TV

In reply: There must be a Writers Guild in Britain, affiliated with the film industry...check with Liverpool Film council...I don't think they are on strike there???
I know ,for a fact, here in America.. The Writers have been on Strike..So, we have no films being made or new TV programs (unless the scripts had been purschased before this all came about).. Some reality shows are a Go..because there are No scripts.. That is the problem with distribution at present here and abroad.. No new scripts, because of a major Strike...
Well, I hope the Best for all the talented people there ,waiting to show their scripts to producers... It is a lot of work .. lots of writing to do.. So heres' to all the Grand writers with Fresh thoughts in Britain.. May you be blessed with lots of work ... and all can enjoy... aloha... and hopefully more work abounds here in America... :handclap:
