View Full Version : The Toffee Penny
Our big tin of Quality Street that was opened the day before Christmas Eve has finally been decimated, only the toffee pennies are left and I swear there are more of them than there had been of any of the others. Why do these things get thrown in, can't they just make a bit more chocolate to go round them? Surely if somebody just likes toffee but not chocolate they wouldnt buy a box/tin of quality street to disregard everything else just for the toffee pennies. There is some conspiracy somewherein that the toffee penny salesman must have friends in high places, like the gherkin farmer with McDonalds (I dont know anyone who doesnt fish their gherkins out of their burger)

Gherkins make the burgers for me, if there are spare ones flying around, i have 'em on mine.
Weird though, i can't bear them if I try using them at home.
chippie 01-01-2008, 11:51 AM could you wrap your toffee pennies up and send them to me please, I,ll finish them off in five minutes. ha ha

Xmas pud ? Now I only liked that for the Silver 3penny bit that was hidden in it
Not your normal 3peeny bit. We was posh lol. It had to be silver or nowt.
Phredd

Go down to Maccies in town at the bottom of Church Street and you'll probably find any amount in the flower beds. Eat well Kev :PDT_Aliboronz_24:

The other thing I hate is Easter Hot cross buns ... what does anyone see in them as well ! They are bland - apart from that horrible taste of cinnamon.
It's the cinammon that ruins everything. I don't like the taste at all.
shytalk 01-03-2008, 06:15 PM OOOOOOOh lindy, if we all liked the same thing life would be boring, We would have the same thing to eat every day. We would only have one channel on TV and all the guys would be wearing out the same woman. Just be happy with the way things are and that you aren't her. :PDT_Aliboronz_11:

Cinammon is lovely, espcially in doughnuts and bagels :PDT_Piratz_26:

I'm not faddy with food as a rule, and I eat anything .. I just don't like that cinammon/spiced/flavour with currants and gritty bits all squashed into a lump of dough or pastry :D
lottie 01-03-2008, 11:29 PM I like everything mentioned except gherkins and scouse YUK. I also agree, its personal choice.

You can't not like scouse thats a crime surely like treason only much much worse :unibrow:
Kolchak 01-04-2008, 09:53 AM Oh dear, everything on this thread has started my tummy rumbles, except for the gherkins of course.
As no one else in my house likes Christmas pud, warm mince pies and toffee pennies, I can have a 'Daddie's feast' for days after the big events.
Just wish they'd stop liking scouse as well, maybe I'd get a look in.

I tried leaving the gherkins on my burger yesterday, totally disgusting they were.
Kolchak 01-04-2008, 10:23 AM Isn't it awful when you forget that the things are in there, taking a bite and realising too late.
I don't know about you, but they make me pull the kind of faces that I last did over school dinner mash potatos, Grrrrrrroooooooggghhhh...

Hi SteH
The gherkin of course is a holdover from McDonald's in the United States and traditional American burgers. . . not what Mickey Dee's calls a burger. Have you ever had a whole Kosher Dill pickle? It's a cracking thing. The sweet limp round thing you get in a Big Mac though is a poor thing and probably does seem an obtrusion. Some Americans spread sweet relish on their burgers or hotdogs, and that's made from sweet pickles, and can often make the meal, if you like that sort of thing which you may not from your complaint about the slice of gherkin.

Bernie 01-07-2008, 03:42 PM My son has to buy Dill Pickles by the gallon jar. His kids who are 10 and 7 eat them as if they were candy.
