THE national radio station Classic FM (http://www.classicfm.co.uk/) will be broadcasting all day from Liverpool on January 3 as its contribution to the city’s title as European Capital of Culture 2008.

It is the first time in the station’s 15-year history that it has broadcast an entire day’s output from somewhere other than its London studios.

The broadcast will come from what is now the city’s tallest building, the recently completed Beetham organisation’s West Tower.

The day’s broadcasting will begin at midnight, with Lisa Duncombe’s two-hour show and end 24 hours later with The Evening Concert, presented by Nick Bailey.

At the core of the day’s broadcast will be numerous recordings by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (http://www.liverpoolphil.com/), named by the radio station as its first orchestral partner.

It was a partnership which began in 2001 and has continued ever since and included regular Classic FM concerts at the Philharmonic Hall. The day is planned to be the first in a series of programmes by Classic FM throughout the year featuring the Phil.

“It will offer a fantastic profile for us,” declared Michael Elliott, chief executive of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. “We are proud to be Classic FM’s first orchestra partner, and thrilled that in the spirit of our still flourishing partnership, Classic FM has chosen Liverpool to be the host of another first.”
